Do you know the name Rosalind Franklin? What about Francis Crick or James Watson or Maurice Wilkins? If you study Biology you would do well to know about it. DNA was theorised, but no one knew the structure, we had no means to image it until in 1952 when Rosalind Franklin imaged a section of DNA using X-ray diffraction.
Franklin was not awarded the Nobel Prize, as she died in 1958. The prize was instead awarded to Francis Crick, James Watson, and Maurice Wilkins in 1962 for developing the first chemical model of DNA.
